Today, June 7th, tofusmell is sharing the new song “Keith,” which chronicles a phone call with a faraway confidant, zeroing in on unrealized longing amid a wall of lo-fi fuzz of sonic inspirations that recall Elliot Smith and Sufjan Stevens. The song, which comes with an animated visual directed by Jeanette Takako Fantone, is from Humor, tofusmell’s forthcoming EP, out June 30th on all DSPs from Hardly Art.
tofusmell’s Chen recently contributed backing vocals to singer/musician Leith Ross’s new single “Music Box” and is currently on the road as a touring member of their live band, and is performing a song from Humor during the set. tofusmell will also open the Chicago date of Ross’s tour to perform a full set at Lincoln Hall on Tuesday, June 13th.
Humor, which includes the gentle and ruminative animated video for single “Basil Noodles,” and the aformentioned “Keith,” was produced and mixed by tofusmell at Rae’s Home in Winter Garden, Florida, and mastered by Sarah Register in New York. It follows the release of “Shower Song,” released last year as part of the label’s 15th Anniversary Singles Series.
