OZOMATLI joins “No Kings” protest in Los Angeles… Joined by Tom Morello

On Saturday, June 14, 2025, triple GRAMMY® winning multi-genre band OZOMATLI were scheduled to perform an outdoor show at Los Angeles, CA’s Grand Performances in California Plaza. However, due to the curfew and ICE raids in the city, the band were forced to postpone the show which will be announced at a later date.

Joining the millions of people across the United States with the “NO KINGS” protests that spread nationwide and even included many international cities showing support, Ozomatli took to the streets and added their voices and music in solidarity to the growing movement.

A band whose foundation is steeped in activism and civil rights, Ozomatli stood alongside the throng of residents at the local protest at the corner of West 4th and Hill, disavowing the current administration’s attack on immigrants nationally and sang their songs of protest. Joined by musician and staunch activist Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine, the band’s stance was heard far and wide.

Following the politically-charged events this weekend, Ozomatli issued the following statement:

For 30 years, Ozomatli has stood with the people in Los Angeles… at the intersection of music, culture, and resistance. We’ve marched. We’ve organized. We literally started out of a protest!

This weekend, we came back to the streets of Los Angeles for the No Kings protest. We rolled through downtown on a flatbed truck, playing live as a band and standing shoulder to shoulder with our community.
Tom Morello jumped on with us to speak truth to power, echoing what we’ve all been shouting: No ICE. No oligarchs. No kings.
Not in L.A. Not now. Not ever.

ICE does not belong in this city.
Every human being has the right to due process.

And to the LAPD: Stop protecting ICE.
Start protecting the people of Los Angeles.

Our scheduled performance was canceled as a direct result of ICE kidnapping our people off the streets, workplaces, and even from their own homes. That wasn’t just a gig lost; that was our voice being muted in the very moment it was most needed. But let’s be clear: Ozomatli doesn’t go silent. We’ve been doing this for three decades and we’re not backing down now.

This is a call to all artists, dancers, filmmakers, photographers, 9-to-5’ers… EVERYONE!!

IF THERE WAS EVER A TIME THE PEOPLE OF YOUR CITY NEEDED YOU, IT’S NOW!
