“I’m not sad anymore,” says FENYX ROSE about the inspiration for her new EP FEEL MY FIRE out today, October 8, 2024 via ARKIVAL. While sadness is often the kickstart for creative inertia with many songwriters, it’s what happened AFTER that emotion that transformed into a different sort of spark. “I also have gone through a huge growth process personally since my breakup, and this project feels like a depiction of that growth and confidence. It’s coming from a more confident and empowered space.”
On the surface, this EP serves as a rebirth (a “Fenyx” rising from the flames, if you will), revisiting a relationship gone bad, but deeper digging reveals another narrative that could also be at work. In her previous musical incarnation, the Los Angeles based singer was ⅓ of the teen pop group The Calvillo Sisters with her siblings. Hotly watched and anticipated, The Calvillo Sisters were incubated at RedZone and upstreamed to Interscope (and even managed by Joe Simpson at one point) before breaking up in 2018.
Like many of their teen pop peers, The Calvillo Sisters were fed through the Music Industry machine and spat out when the masses’ tastes moved away from that style of pop. Instead of lingering on the past, she figuratively “broke up” with that part of her creative self and explored a new, more honest musical direction.
Fenyx is now rising from the ashes and claiming her own voice with her new EP. The 7-track Feel My Fire represents Fenyx’s authentic self and not some major label idea of who she “should” be. Her latest single, the title track from the EP appropriately named “Feel My Fire“ (released in September) is a reflection of the path she’s gone on to reclaim her power.
“That song just hits me different, because it feels like such an accurate depiction of my journey and how I feel now in my life. It maybe feels more genuine now than when I actually wrote it,” Fenyx explains. “The lyrics for ‘Feel My Fire’ were inspired by my own personal growth journey. I’ve been on a path of self discovery and coming out of my shell, and that’s what I wanted to portray. I also wanted to write something to inspire others to step into their power as well.”
“This EP is really exciting for me. It’s been so nice to work with an incredible team, which has been a first for me as a solo artist, and to be putting out such a positive and uplifting project. It feels like the right next step forward. Having direct feedback on each song during the writing process was very helpful, and helped push me as a songwriter. I was also coming from a much more empowered place from my previous project, and I think that really reflects in my songwriting.”
