Fiona Grey’s maximalist pop debut, Adult Tantrums

Fiona Grey is the People’s Popstar. Equal parts spectacle and spirit, she’s spent years commanding underground pop scenes with her razor-sharp lyrics and glam. Inspired by boundary-pushing pop artists like Lady Gaga, MARINA, Lana Del Rey, and Chappell Roan, Grey is a maximalist who writes about the chaos of being human – grief, rage, love, and identity – with a campy edge.

Fueled by real-life loss, Fiona’s debut full-length, Adult Tantrums, finds the L.A. artist committed to turning tragedy into dance floor catharsis. Written in the wake of losing both her sibling and best friend, surviving sexual assault, and navigating a world that punishes the vulnerable, Adult Tantrums names and shames its own misery through the lens of unapologetic self-expression.

Born in Chicago and raised in Los Angeles, Grey grew up with the overlapping influence of old Hollywood, musical theater, and club culture. The result? A shapeshifting creative force was born: part pop diva, part dinner-party mastermind, part punk in heels. All of her visuals are handcrafted; she directs her own videos, styles her own looks, creative-directs the photo shoots, and even runs her own marketing agency to help build worlds for other independent artists. One time she bought out the oldest costume shop in Las Vegas just to build her dream performance wardrobe.

And of course she couldn’t record her debut just anywhere, so she went to Rome to work with Alex Elena and Steve Baughman, and fully immerse herself in the process of making her first record. Without the distraction of everyday life and all of its multi-tasking, Grey was able to shift her focus on the story she was telling through her songs. As a result, the scenery, the community, and overall atmosphere of Italy deeply influenced the universe of Adult Tantrums

And then there are the unforgettable, immersive live performances that earned Fiona Grey the title of Best Pop Artist by LA Weekly. Whether she’s headlining a sold out hometown moment or sharing stages with artists like Charli XCX, KITTEN, and Foals, a Fiona Grey gig is truly a world of its own.

With the release of her debut album, Fiona Grey’s reclaiming her mark on the world of pop music. Adult Tantrums is a huge chapter in her own healing, but it’s also a glitter-soaked permission slip for anyone listening to dance, sing, and thrive through whatever life throws your way.
