I don’t often walk into a show without knowing the bands, but this time, I hadn’t heard of any of them before getting the invite. Luckily, I got to experience them live, and honestly, Norway feels like it might have a second home here in Denver.
When my mom asks, “Don’t we have metal at home?” The answer is, “No, Mom, we don’t. Get off my back!” Especially not with bands like tonight’s raising the bar so high.
Fight The Fight kicked things off with a massive sound. Their shifting tempos, anchored by powerful vocal growls, made the performance something else. The lead singer looked like he was possessed by a musical demon, and let me tell you, it was something I’d recommend to friends—and even enemies! Their set stole the show, hands down. If you’re checking them out, I recommend “12800,” “Fight the Fight,” and “Alien.”
The next band Earthside, while talented, couldn’t match the Norwegian Metal—they’re from Chicago, after all. That said, I was absolutely vibing with Frank, their keyboardist/synth guy/programmer/extra guitarist/percussionist.
By “extra guitarist,” I mean “air guitarist.” But the guy had more energy than anyone else on stage. We love Frank!
Then, out of nowhere, I was hit by the massive sound of Leprous—seriously, I don’t know what they put in their protein shakes, but it’s working. The lead singer has the range of a god. He effortlessly switched between soaring high notes and deep, raw emotion, making you feel every lyric. Watching him, it’s no wonder the crowd was so captivated. They even brought up some super eager fans to sing along, and I’m a little jealous I didn’t know the words. Hopefully, we screamed loud enough to get them back here soon!
Thanks @paaaate for doing what I couldn’t – find the Gothic! Also, find Leprous!
