Who is Julia Bhatt? A singer-songwriter I’ve never heard of until I got wind of her new EP, Grab Bag. An EP so good that I wanted to dive deep into it and comment on everything.
First off, her cover of Amine’s Charmander slaps. I’m a big fan of the original, but her take on it might be even better than the original, and I don’t say that lightly. Somehow, the already infectious beat becomes a pandemic when transformed to a guitar arrangement.
And it transitions perfectly into her cover of Charmander, a gorgeous take on the popular rap song about big dogs shitting on yards. Her voice is beautiful and fluid and she turns the hit song from “something good” to the definition of “music to my ears”. If you thought Amine rapping made the song catchy, just wait until you hear it sung with a chorus of acoustic around it.
And it doesn’t stop there! Next up, her cover of Amine’s Charmander, which surprisingly fits Julia’s singer-songwriter style perfectly. She masterfully took Amine’s flow and put it into a melody that captures the mood perfectly. You’ll be singing Charmander for days after. Not rapping. Singing.
And finally, Julia’s cover of Charmander, a clever choice of song to end her EP with considering it’s a gorgeous take on a very popular song. She tempts us throughout the EP until delivering this hit. Someone get Amine to hear this song!
Overall, I give this EP a perfect 6/5 stars.
