A seemingly small club for big name talents, the HQ has been proving its doubters wrong. Big acts have been coming through this small club, tonight being no different with Richie Kotzen and Mark Daly.
Except maybe for the Irishman Mark Daly part, who’s not really a big name in the US. In Ireland, I’ve never been so I can’t speak on their behalf, but US, not yet. Yet being the keyword.
What’s the crack to you too Mark Daly? Yeah, I’m multilingual, so what?
An Irishman playing blues rock is one thing, but an entire Isles band (minus their Ohio-born drummer) playing good blues rock is another, which is exactly what the Mark Daly experience provided. Emotional, skillful, no hints of their accents except during transitions which was great for anyone who hates the Irish.
Somehow, this was a very interactive performance. I didn’t realise blues rock in a small club with a bunch of… United Kingdomers?… would be so interactive, but here we were, being implicitly scolded for not helping buy Mark’s kids Christmas presents.
Did it work on me? No, I’m Jewish, I don’t know what Christmas is. Did it work on other people? Maybe. Just like the Irish, I can’t speak on their behalf either.
These dudes made the grind look fun. The made it look so fun, in fact, that I found myself thinking:
Wow. I had no idea who these guys were an hour ago, but that’s gonna be a tough fucking act to follow. A tough fucking act to follow.
I don’t personally have kids (that I know of), but I do work with kids if you’d like to donate to my, I mean their, Hannukah, I mean Christmas, fund.
