Movie Review: Weapons

What a fun Zach Cregger style film. And by Zach Cregger style film, I mean it’s told in a non conventional way (vignettes, which is made apparent in the first minutes) and has a cooky villain that’s more than just, “ta da! It’s a baddy!”

It is quite the slow burn, and found myself hoping the ending paid off. Which, if this was maybe 20 minutes shorter, it would have. You get excited when certain vignettes start to play because you know you’re about to get something finally explained to you, but still, it’s a very slow burn.

The rave reviews it’s getting are definitely earned – I enjoyed it and I hate slow burns. Everything you want answered gets answered. And it has quite a fun climax at the end that’s both humorous and gory. Overall, it’s a really good followup to Barbarian and I hope it cements the Zach Cregger style of story telling – non linear with villains that are more than just stereotypes.
